I was afraid that big tech and surveillance capitalism would kill the world wide web – I still am to be honest. What I mean is kill the “essence” of the web not the entire thing of course. There’s so much profit and market share and “potential” still to be sucked from users of the the world wide web, so it’s not going anywhere. It is losing it is essence though – everything is about consumers and customers, everything is about personal data, everything is boring and monotonous.

But I am happy to report that the web is not dead yet. There are innumerable small efforts and projects that are resisting the demands of digital economics and keeping the chaotic, difficult-to-predict nature of the internet alive. I found one such project today, thanks to another user on Fosstodon. Check out https://mmm.page!! Took me back to the days of my space, hi5, live journal and others where you could stamp your style on your web page quite clearly. Making HTML/CSS static sites was an art because it presented a blank canvas to start off with.
